Heritage and Sea Culture Attract Global Visitors to Mazu’s Island

On October 31, 2025, Mazu devotees carried a golden statue of the sea goddess back to her palace on Meizhou Island, Fujian Province, seeking blessings during the tenth Global Mazu Culture Forum.

The event, hosted on Meizhou Island, celebrated centuries of maritime heritage and cultural faith surrounding Mazu, a revered protector of sailors. The organizing committee emphasized the role of the goddess in fostering unity among communities across coastal China and beyond.

"I can feel the cohesion across the Taiwan Straits at the event site," said Ma Jui-chun, a participant in the forum.

Two statues of Mazu had earlier departed from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, traveling to international destinations as cultural envoys. These symbolic journeys highlighted the global recognition of Mazu’s spirit and her enduring influence on sea culture and belief traditions.

Alongside the forum, China’s cultural and technological exchange continued to flourish, as showcased at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.

Summary

The Mazu Culture Forum on Meizhou Island united worshippers and cultural delegates worldwide, reinforcing maritime traditions and cross-strait solidarity through shared devotion.
