Youth mobile crisis service now available in Ohio

Youth Mobile Crisis Service Expands Across Ohio

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced statewide availability of a mobile crisis intervention program for youth facing mental health emergencies. The service, Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS), will now operate in all 88 Ohio counties, extending beyond the 56 counties previously covered.

MRSS Accessibility and Purpose

The Governor’s office stated that MRSS is free of charge for children and young adults aged 20 and under who experience mental, emotional, or behavioral challenges.

“Far too many are struggling with their mental health, and parents and caregivers don’t know where to turn when their child needs help,” said Governor DeWine. “MRSS provides that immediate help to all young people, no matter where in Ohio they are.”

How to Access the Service

Parents, educators, medical staff, law enforcement, peers, or any young person in crisis can call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 and request MRSS. Upon contact, a team that includes a licensed clinician will respond promptly to the individual's location, prioritizing safety.

Collaboration Behind the Expansion

The program’s growth follows an earlier announcement from April stating that the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health and the Ohio Department of Medicaid collaborated to make the MRSS expansion possible.

Summary

This service expansion ensures that youth across Ohio, regardless of location, have immediate access to professional mental health crisis support when they need it most.

Author’s summary: Ohio’s expanded Mobile Response and Stabilization Services offer free, immediate mental health crisis assistance to youth statewide, reflecting a crucial step in supporting young individuals and families in distress.
