Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia disclosed the heartbreaking reason for his absence from the World Series. On Friday, Vesia and his wife, Kayla, shared on Instagram that they are grieving the death of their daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia.
“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The 29-year-old pitcher had been away since the World Series began due to what the Dodgers called a “deeply personal family matter.” Earlier in April, the couple announced they were expecting their child.
In their post, they expressed gratitude towards the Dodgers organization and their fans:
Vesia did not participate in the World Series games, after pitching in seven games during the postseason.
