Wendy's recently announced plans to shut down around 300 stores across the United States. This follows an earlier announcement to close 150 locations by late 2024, bringing the total closures to over 350 stores.
Wendy's is among the top ten fast-food chains in New Jersey, which currently has 145 Wendy's outlets, including many in South Jersey. It is unclear if any New Jersey locations will be affected by the upcoming closures, as the company has not released specific details about which stores will close.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," said Interim CEO Ken Cook during the November 7 quarterly earnings call. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
Cook also emphasized that while many stores will close, the company aims to preserve some locations.
Wendy's is closing over 350 locations nationwide by late 2025, but it remains uncertain if any New Jersey outlets will be included in these closures.
