Karrueche Tran, rumored girlfriend of Deion Sanders and star of the Emmy-winning series The Bay, recently discussed the hurdles she faced while preparing for her latest film Preach, Pray, Love.
Known for her roles in Claws and The Chi, Tran has steadily built a name in Hollywood. She also made a striking appearance at a recent Variety event, turning heads with her bold fashion choices.
In her new romantic comedy, Tran portrays Charlie Jones, a rapper climbing the ranks in hip hop through sharp lyrics and edgy charisma. At 37, this is her first full immersion into a rap persona in film.
“One of the biggest challenges playing this role was rapping… throughout the movie that is me rapping in the songs LMAO.”
To make her performance convincing, Tran spent more than six hours in the recording studio, perfecting her sound. She told Black Girl Nerds that authenticity was essential to her process.
“I didn’t want to just like, go in and just kind of wing it, you know.”
Tran also credited a close friend for assisting her in capturing the right tone and energy for the character.
