Lifetime’s new original film Preach, Pray, Love explores how faith, fame, and forbidden love intertwine in unexpected ways. The story centers on rapper Charlie Jones, portrayed by Karrueche Tran, whose fearless lyrics and confidence make her a rising star in hip-hop.
Her life takes a turn when she meets Kyrus Owens, played by Mark J.P. Hood, a youthful and passionate minister with a loyal congregation. Their chemistry ignites a romance that tests their values, beliefs, and self-identity.
Kyrus struggles under the scrutiny of his church members, who question if his relationship conflicts with his spiritual calling. At the same time, Charlie battles her inner doubts, torn between artistic authenticity and the new spiritual awakening sparked by Kyrus.
Together, they attempt to reconcile two seemingly opposite worlds: one defined by celebrity and self-expression, and the other by devotion and duty.
“It’s a story about vulnerability, redemption, and the courage to love without boundaries.”
In an interview with Black Girl Nerds, Jamie Broadnax spoke with Tran and Hood about their on-screen chemistry, balancing love and purpose, and portraying faith with emotional honesty.
This film reflects how love can transcend expectations, revealing the human struggle between belief, passion, and self-discovery within modern relationships.
