The hull of Captain Arctic, a near-zero emission exploration vessel designed for sustainable cruising in some of the planet’s most fragile environments, has been launched in Dubai. The ceremony took place last week after the successful completion of hull fabrication, according to UAE-based engineering company Goltens.
This milestone is the result of months of precise engineering, fabrication, and cooperation between the vessel’s French owner, Selar, Mauritius-based shipyard Chantier Naval de l’Ocean Indien (CNOI), and Goltens.
After the launch, the hull is being shipped to Mauritius, where the Indian Ocean Shipyard will continue building this next-generation polar expedition vessel.
Captain Arctic represents “a new era in environmentally conscious vessel design.” The 69-meter long ship primarily uses renewable energy sources to cut CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional ships.
