British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper has called for a boost in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Palestine, labeling it a crucial step toward lasting peace in the region.
According to a statement by the British Embassy in Amman on November 4, Cooper announced,
"British aid, including food and shelter supplies, is ready in warehouses awaiting permission to enter Gaza."
She stressed, "The Gazan people cannot wait."
Cooper highlighted the pressing need to open more crossings and ease aid restrictions, enabling the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to increase their vital relief operations. These efforts align with the US-led peace plan.
During her visit to Jordan, Cooper inspected a warehouse storing British aid destined for Gaza. She emphasized Jordan's pivotal role as the main hub for coordinating and distributing humanitarian aid in the region.
While a recent three-week ceasefire allowed more aid to reach Gaza, Cooper pointed out that significant restrictions remain, blocking essential supplies. She noted that the humanitarian needs are still extensive and require much greater support.
"The scale of humanitarian needs was still significant and needed substantial increased support."
