A McDonald's branch located on Newmarket Road, Cambridge, is applying to open an hour earlier than current hours, aiming to shift from 7am-11pm to 6am-11pm every day.
Despite two previous refusals, McDonald's, represented by Savills, has submitted a new application to extend its opening times. The restaurant currently opens at 7am but hopes to start trading from 6am to better serve early customers.
In a cover letter, Savills argued the proposed extension would not negatively affect nearby residents. They noted that other businesses in the area have longer hours, citing Papa John's, which stays open until 3am daily.
“This application simply seeks to extend the trading hours by an additional hour from that which is currently approved. We therefore anticipate that the proposal is entirely acceptable in terms of the extra hour of operation in the early morning trading period as no complaints have been received.”
Savills emphasized that the majority of customers come during early morning hours and highlighted the economic advantages of opening earlier, which could benefit both the business and the local community.
