The UK is currently experiencing an unusually mild spell in early November, with temperatures significantly above the seasonal average.
According to the latest 10-day forecast from the Met Office, this period of calm and warmth will soon give way to more unsettled, changeable conditions starting in the new working week.
A wavy jet stream across the Atlantic is driving the current weather pattern. This has created a series of dips and troughs, including one extending toward Iberia. Over the coming days, this trough is expected to deepen, anchoring low pressure southward and moving it north toward the UK by the weekend.
Later in the weekend, another dip in the jet stream is predicted, forming a wider trough over the Atlantic. The fluctuating jet stream contributes to slow-moving weather patterns next week, leading to a contest between low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east of the UK.
Bonfire Night 2025 was record breaking. Temperatures overnight only dropped to 14°C.
Author’s summary: The UK enjoys an unusually mild early November, but unstable weather is expected soon due to a shifting jet stream influencing pressure systems around the region.
