A new hotel in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district invites guests to reconnect with the city through plants, craftsmanship, and calming design.
On September 1, SOIL Nihonbashi Hotel opened its doors in Ningyocho, Nihonbashi. It serves as the lodging facility of SOIL Nihonbashi and follows SOIL Setoda, which launched in 2021 on Ikuchijima Island in the Seto Inland Sea. Together, these properties create a dispersed complex that harmonizes with their surroundings.
The hotel has only 14 rooms and is located in a lively neighborhood featuring Parklet Bakery, a timsum wine shop, and Soil Work Nihonbashi coworking space, each part of the area’s daily rhythm.
The hotel’s concept, ‘backstreet gardening’, is inspired by the over 100 potted plants along nearby backstreets, carefully tended and shared among neighbors. These plants are integrated throughout the interior, gifted by local residents, creating an urban green oasis that softens the atmosphere.
Greenery ‘shared’ by local residents peeks out from the balconies.
SOIL Nihonbashi Hotel blends urban living and nature through thoughtful design and local community spirit, offering guests a serene city retreat filled with greenery and craftsmanship.
