A woman and a child tragically died after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne. The incident occurred at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong, around 3:45 pm on Monday.
Police believe the mother struggled in the water after trying to save the child. Emergency services arrived quickly and found both unconscious. Despite CPR efforts, neither the woman nor the child could be revived and were declared dead at the scene.
The identities of both the woman and the child have not yet been formally confirmed.
Authorities are preparing a report for the coroner to determine the exact circumstances of the drowning.
