Pixar has released the first teaser for Toy Story 5, revealing a new high-tech toy and setting the stage for the next major chapter in the beloved franchise. Scheduled for release next summer, this will be Pixar’s 31st feature film, following the successes of Inside Out 2 and Elio.
The teaser introduces a fresh addition to the toy box — a smart tablet named Lilypad, voiced by actress Greta Lee, known for Past Lives and Tron: Ares. The tagline sparks intrigue:
“The age of toys is over.”
This phrase hints at a confrontation between nostalgic playthings and modern technology as familiar heroes face a new challenge to “playtime.”
The film is co-directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) and McKenna Harris, marking her directorial debut after years at Pixar. The pair describe the movie as having a “playfully antagonistic tone” and emphasize its focus on how classic characters adjust to a tech-driven world.
Initially confirmed in early 2023, Toy Story 5 continues a film series that has earned more than $3.3 billion globally. The movie is also notable for being the first installment produced without John Lasseter, who left Pixar in 2018.
Toy Story 5 revives the beloved Pixar saga with fresh energy, introducing tech-driven conflicts and new characters while maintaining the franchise’s emotional core.
