Season 5 of Marvel Rivals, launching on November 14, is shaping up to be a milestone update. In addition to the long-awaited arrival of Gambit and Rogue—referred to as Mr. X and his partner by creative director Guangyun Chen—the update introduces a completely new type of map centered on New York’s Times Square.
The new Times Square map stands out because it breaks from the game's usual intense, hero-versus-hero style. Instead of fast-paced combat, players will be free to gather and enjoy social activities together.
“Season 5 brings you the grand debut of New York's Times Square,” said Guangguang in the pre-season 5 update video. “This is a non-combat map that can host up to 100 players. Hang out, dance, watch videos, read books, and let your imagination run wild.”
Chen noted that this feature was inspired by the success of player gatherings in the “Sanctum Sanctorum” map, where fans organized lighthearted meetups despite the game’s combat-heavy design.
Marvel Rivals has always emphasized action, often featuring violent clashes between heroes like Blade, whose brutal fighting style evokes scenes from Elden Ring. The new non-combat environment signals a refreshing change—offering players a space to relax, socialize, and express creativity beyond battles.
Author’s summary: Marvel Rivals Season 5 redefines the game’s dynamic by adding a peaceful Times Square map for 100 players to socialize, imagine, and share creative moments together.
