People are urged to avoid consuming various alfalfa sprouts produced by Parilla Fresh due to a national recall prompted by possible Salmonella contamination.
The recall resulted from a joint investigation by interstate health and food regulatory authorities after an unusual rise in Salmonella infections was detected. Parilla Fresh, based in NSW, has withdrawn the product while further tests and investigations continue.
The Victorian Department of Health reports that the affected alfalfa sprouts were sold at numerous supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths, IGA, and independent grocers across NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory, and South Australia.
The Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) website lists the specific products included in the recall.
“If you've eaten alfalfa sprouts, you should monitor for symptoms of salmonellosis, which may include diarrhea, fever and headache,” said Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Dr. Caroline McElnay.
She also advised anyone who has recently purchased the affected products to discard them immediately to avoid potential infection.
Summary: A national recall of Parilla Fresh alfalfa sprouts is underway due to Salmonella risk, affecting multiple Australian states and urging consumers to discard the product and watch for illness symptoms.
