Detroit radio stations spark early Christmas music debate

Several Detroit radio stations have officially switched to Christmas music, reigniting the yearly discussion about whether it’s too early to play holiday songs while Thanksgiving remains weeks away.

Reporters took to the streets to ask Detroit residents when they believe it’s appropriate to hear festive tunes, and opinions were once again sharply divided.

“It doesn’t matter what you’re feeling any time of the year… once you put Christmas music on — it’s never too early,” said Kanisha.
“The timing is perfect for right now,” added Brittany.
“Christmas music should be played all year round,” suggested Doretha.

But not everyone shared the same level of holiday enthusiasm.

“Christmas music in July is way too much time,” said Austin.
“Any time is too early… because it is,” commented Ahthavan.
“Because you need a break between Halloween… and just like, to breathe,” said Alexis, agreeing with Sandra and Aidan that it’s too soon to start before Thanksgiving.

Summary

Detroit’s early shift to Christmas music has once again divided residents between those eager for festive cheer and others who prefer to wait until after Thanksgiving.
