Dawn Services, a Louisiana-based towage company, has started operating the rebuilt US-built tugboat Captain John J Charpentier in ports and waterways along the US Gulf coast to enhance its towage capabilities in the region.
The 46-meter tugboat, originally built in 2003 with IMO number 8218926, was recently rebuilt in a US shipyard. It features 6,115 kW of installed power and a bollard pull of 106 tonnes. The vessel was officially named in October 2025.
“Adding this ABS-class tugboat is part of our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers both domestically and internationally.” — Dawn Services
Since the naming ceremony, the Captain John J Charpentier has already completed towing the training vessel Kennedy through Sabine Pass and docked at the port of New Orleans.
The tugboat features ice-class hull and machinery and is certified for international operations. It complies with the IMO’s code for international ship management, as well as SOLAS and Marpol regulations.
Captain John J Charpentier strengthens Dawn Services' fleet by providing modern, reliable towing services essential for supporting maritime operations along the Gulf coast.
